- Role Overview
The Brand Manager leads Northstar’s brand division in China, overseeing all teams dedicated to the account. This includes development, commercialization, pricing, order management, and production planning. Based in Dongguan, this role ensures that Northstar’s teams are aligned and working effectively with their counterparts in customer China office, and in the Northstar LA office.
The Brand Manager must be highly customer-centric, acting as the key link between the customer and Northstar’s factory base. The role requires the mindset of a salesperson, ensuring that Northstar’s service levels not only support brand’s needs but also create opportunities to grow the partnership.
Key Responsibilities
● Leadership & Team Management
○ Lead and manage Northstar’s brand-focused teams (development, materials, commercialization, pricing, order management, production planning, and quality).
○ Organize and structure teams to deliver excellent customer service and efficient execution.
○ Train Northstar teams to act with a customer-first mindset and communicate effectively with customer and Northstar USA counterparts.
● Customer Relationship Management
○ Serve as the primary point of contact between Northstar and Customer Asia leadership.
○ Build and foster excellent relationships with customer senior decision-makers to strengthen trust and collaboration.
○ Ensure Northstar is seen as a proactive, solutions-driven partner capable of supporting brand’s global sourcing strategies.
○ Collaborate with Northstar’s USA’s sales/design teams to align on customer needs, identify new sales opportunities, and deliver value to the customer.
● Operational Excellence
○ Ensure smooth coordination between Northstar and customer teams across all functions (development, commercialization, pricing, production, QA).
○ Monitor and improve workflows to deliver samples, commercialized styles, and production plans on time and at the highest quality.
○ Act as the liaison between the brand and factories, turning challenges into clear, customer-focused solutions.
● Sourcing & Factory Interface
○ Determine sourcing allocation strategy for the customer, optimizing for quality, on-time delivery, and margin.
○ Anticipate and resolve factory issues quickly, ensuring solutions are communicated clearly and constructively to the customer.
○ Collaborate with the GM to evaluate and maintain the optimal factory base to meet customer’s evolving sourcing needs, while preserving Northstar margins and quality performance.
○ Build and maintain excellent relationships with all Northstar factories and suppliers.
Qualifications
● 10+ years of experience in footwear sourcing, development, or production management, with direct account management responsibilities.
● Experience managing accounts over $50M USD in annual sales; and over 5M pairs shipped annually
● Strong customer relationship management skills, with proven ability to foster senior-level partnerships.
● Demonstrated success leading cross-functional teams in a fast-paced, customer-driven environment.
● Excellent management capabilities - comfortable training teams, providing coaching, setting goals, creating improvement plans, etc.
● Commercial mindset, able to think and act like a salesperson while delivering excellent service.
● Ability to manage complex workflows across multiple teams and functions.
● Excellent problem-solving and communication skills, with a focus on turning challenges into solutions.
● Fluent in English and Mandarin; strong cross-cultural communication skills required.
